Betula pendula 'Youngii' (Weeping Silver Birch)

Young's Weeping Birch. Introduced in the 1870's and named in honour of James Young, Head Gardener at Riccarton Estate, Edinburgh. A beautiful low dome-shaped tree with a spreading, weeping habit. Bearing fluffy golden brown catkins in spring and bright green diamond shaped leaves, cascading to the ground on weeping branches, and later providing good autumn colour, this interesting specimen also provides great winter interest with it's peeling white bark and dense weeping twiggy form. Deciduous and fully hardy, suitable for moist well drained soils and for full sun or lightly dappled shade. This makes an excellent lawn specimen and looks great underplanted with crocuses in spring. Max 1.5-3m.
