Morus nigra (Black Mulberry)

Small, deciduous tree bearing dark, sweet, richly flavoured fruit. Best maintained as a 6-8ft bush. Introduced in the 16th century by James I for silk production. This was soon discovered to be a mistake, as it is the white mulberry that silk worms feed on!
