Tulip Tree. An unusual large deciduous tree, native to eastern US and first introduced to Britain by Bishop Compton of Fulham Palace, who imported many rare species from Virginia in the 1600's. Grown for it's curious saddle-shaped leaves which are deep glossy green in summer and brilliant reds and yellows in autumn. The crushed leaves have a eucalyptus-like scent. A hardy and slow growing deciduous, of broadly conical form, preferring a well drained site in full sun which will give the best colour. Suitable for large gardens, parkland and makes a magnificent avenue tree.
