The most popular and well known variety in cultivation in Britain. Introduced by Thomas Rivers of Hertfordshire in 1885 at the British Pear Conference - hence the name. Hardy, reliable and heavy cropping this variety is partially self-fertile and will do better with a pollinator. Suitable for colder areas in the North and for most fertile, well-drained soils, preferring a sheltered spot in full sun. The fruit are firm, sweet and juicy with a long tapering shape. Max 3m
