Robinia pseudoacacia (False Acacia)

False Acacia. Native to North America and introduced to Europe in the 1600's. Named in honour of Jean Robin, herbalist to Henry IV of France. This medium to large, hardy, deciduous tree is known to absorb a lot of carbon dioxide, making it a firm favourite with the eco-friendly gardener and the urban landscaper alike. Prefers a poor but moist soil and a sunny spot, sheltered from cold winds. Lush green pinnate foliage which flutters in the gentlest breeze, this will easily tolerate being regularly pruned to suit the smaller garden.
