Sorbus aucuparia - Native Rowan

Native Rowan. The most popular and well known of all the rowans, this small deciduous tree has been much loved by Scottish gardeners for centuries and features prominently in our myths and folklore. It was believed that a pair of these planted either side of the path to your door would keep all evil spirits away from the house. This remains an important tree in Scotland, being an integral part of the Caledonian Forest. Clusters of white flowers in spring, deep green pinnate foliage in summer and bunches of shiny red berries in autumn, with foliage turning red and deep orange. An important food source for wildlife in the winter garden. Extremely tough and hardy and suitable for most soil types and locations, including coastal. 5m x 3m after 20yrs.
