Following extensive and successful trials with our own low-peat and peat-free formulas, we are now producing a range of plants grown in 100% peat-free compost, in addition to the wide range of plants currently available in our 80% peat-free compost. As we become more and more aware of the environmental damage being done by the demand for horticultural peat - endangering our native peat bogs and wetlands and the array of flora and fauna they support - we feel it is important that, as a commercial nursery, we play our part in bringing about a necessary change.
Our trials have been based on gradually reducing the amount of peat in each of our compost formulas and obviously the slower growing plants, like conifers, require longer trial periods. To date, we have had no major glitches and appear to be well on the way to achieving our goal of being a 100% Peat Free Nursery!
