The Superoots Air-Pot and Stairway
At Stairway we have been fortunate to be involved with the Superoots Air-Pot since its introduction. Produced by our partner company, the Caledonian Tree Company, the Air-Pot is an innovative system for growing all sorts of produce in. Stairway is in the unique position having spent the last few years since the introduction of the Superoots Air-Pot in refining both the individual growing requirements for Air-Pot and the medium used to maximise the benefit of this product and to produce the levels of quality that we expect of our trees and shrubs.
The Superoots Air-Pot is a recyclable, reusable plastic container that actively enhances the quality of the root systems of plants. This revolutionary approach to containerizing tree stock produces fabulous, non-spiralling root systems that are impossible to develop in any other available container.
We are very proud that the best horticultural institutions in the world – including the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Edinburgh, and the Forestry Commission’s Bedgebury Pinetum, among many others – are major supporters and users of the Air-Pot plant containers. Indeed they propagate their rare seed collected around the world ONLY in Air Pots, then pot on into larger Air-Pots too.
Also, the authorities behind the London Olympic Games 2012, have specified that all plants grown in containers of 5 Litres and above will be in Air-Pots!
This is simply because the Air-Pot actively enhances the root system and, consequently, the plant health and vigour.
Superoots developed the Air-Pot in the 1990’s – and still work closely with us to keep making improvements – for the best nurseries to grow high quality trees and shrubs. The Air-Pot became known for producing excellent results even with ‘problem’ species – those which simply don’t like containers, or have too vigorous a root system, which normally get quickly and really badly pot-bound – Eucalyptus, Quercus, Pinus.
